Group Features are permission-based calling features of the Sky phone system that are controlled through the use of groups. A group is created, members are added or removed, and these members are granted permission to perform one or more actions (calling features) to the members of another group.
Typically, when a phone system is created for an organization, the following group features are enabled for all users by default:
If an Authorized Contact does not want all users to be able to use a group feature, they would contact Support, who would then modify the groups and related permissions as necessary. Authorized Contacts who are Decision Makers and Phone Managers can request changes to any of the Group Features.
Customizing the use of Group Features can be very helpful since most organizations have different levels of personnel who require different calling features and permissions. This article provides an overview of the group features that can be customized to apply permissions to a subset of employees as needed.
Extension Dial
Extension dialing enables members of one group to extension dial members of another group. If you have multiple locations, you may wish to have employees in your main office dial four-digit extensions to contact each other, while dialing the full 10-digit number to contact your satellite offices. Customizing this calling feature by location generates changes to the Employee Directory to list only the extensions of that location.
Watch
Watch enables members of a group to be visible or not visible in the Employee Directory and in the Phone Assistant. Typically, two groups are created where all members of one group are visible and all members of another group are not visible in the Employee Directory and Phone Assistant. To request changes to the current watch group functionality for your organization, create a Support Case to communicate your request to Support.
Park
Park enables members of one group to park and unpark calls of members of another group. Note that all users can park and unpark their own calls. For more information, see our Park article.
Pickup
Pickup enables members of one group to pick up (answer) a ringing call to a member of another group. For more information, see our Pickup article.
Intercom
Intercom enables members of one group to place two-way extension-to-extension speakerphone calls to members of another group. For more information, see our Intercom article.
Barge
Barge enables members of one group to perform barge-related actions on the active calls of members of another group. These actions include being able to silently monitor a call, whisper to a caller, and join an active call. For more information, see our Barge article.
Page
Page enables members of one group to page (one-way speakerphone calls) the phones of all members of another group using only one extension number. This extension number is a 1 to 4-digit group distribution number that is associated with the extensions of all members of another group. For more information, see our Page article.
Group Voicemail
Group Voicemail enables members of one group to broadcast or forward a voicemail message to all members of another group using only one extension number. This extension number is a 1 to 4-digit group distribution number that is associated with the voicemail boxes of all members of another group. For more information, see our Group Voicemail article.
