Number Transfer (Porting)

« Go Back
Information

"Number porting" is the process of transferring local, long distance, and toll-free phone numbers from your current telecom service provider to RingCentral for your MiCloud or Sky phone system.

Transferring (a.k.a. porting) phone numbers is done via the Cloud Portal by Authorized Contacts (phone system administrators). For detailed instructions about transferring (porting) phone numbers to RingCentral, see the article listed below for your phone system:

Note that a copy of a recent phone bill is required for the numbers you want to port. The phone bill must be from the previous billing cycle or no more than 30 days old.

Timelines and Expectations

Q: How long does porting a local or long distance phone number take?
A: When porting less than 50 phone numbers, the process usually takes 10 to 15 business days from the date the request is submitted. When porting 50 or more phone numbers, the process usually takes 25 to 30 business days. Be sure to provide ample notification of your porting request to ensure proper planning and resource availability. The complexity of a number porting request affects the speed of the process, which can be improved by the accuracy of customer service records and the responsiveness of the customer and the customer's current telecom provider.

Q: How long does porting a Toll-Free phone number take?
A: There is no accurate way to estimate the time required to port Toll-Free numbers. Toll-Free carriers inform us the day before the port is going to occur.

Q: What day and time will my port occur?
A: Phone numbers are only ported Monday through Friday between 08:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST. No porting is done on weekends and holidays.

Q: How much will this cost?
A: Pricing for porting local, long distance, and toll-free numbers varies. For more information about costs, see the Pricing section of the Toll-Free Numbers article. You can also contact the Account Manager or our Support Team for specific pricing information.

Remote Call Forwarding

If you have submitted a request to port your existing phone numbers to RingCentral, but the estimated time period for completing the porting request is expected to last longer than desired, you can request Remote Call Forwarding (RCF) functionality. An RCF can be used to temporarily forward calls and voicemails placed to your existing phone numbers to temporary phone numbers in your new MiCloud or Sky phone system. To request an RCF, you can contact the Account Manager for your account or an Authorized Contact (Decision Maker or Phone Manager) for your organization can create a Support Case to communicate your request to our Support Team.
