Overview
A router is a computer networking device that forwards data packets across a network through a process known as routing. This article provides information about MiCloud/Sky-managed routers for customers of the Sky and MiCloud phone systems.
If RingCentral manages your connectivity, then RingCentral owns and manages the router on site. The router connects to two Ethernet ports, one for your data network and one for your voice network. On MiCloud/Sky-managed routers, the default configuration is E0 for the data interface and E1 for the voice interface.
Supported Routers
RingCentral can provide customers with one of the following two supported router models.
HP MSR1002

HP MSR2003

Connecting Your MiCloud/Sky-Supported Router
Use the following instructions to connect to your MiCloud/Sky-supported router.
- Check the contents of your router:
- MiCloud/Sky-supported router (HP MSR1002 or HP MSR2003)
- Router power supply
- 4 Ethernet cables
- Rack mounting kit
- Plug one Ethernet cable from the T1 line/smartjack to one of the WAN Interface Card slots on the back of the router.
NOTE: The smartjack is installed by and is the property of RingCentral ’s contracted carrier. If you are unable to locate it, contact RingCentral for a description of where the carrier installed it. - Plug one Ethernet cable from the voice network switch to the GE1 port on the front of the router.
- Optionally, plug one Ethernet cable from the firewall/data network switch to the GE2 port on the front of the router.
NOTE: If using the HP MSR2003 router, connect the firewall/data cable or the alternate broadband service cable to the GE0 port. - Optionally, plug one Ethernet cable from the alternate broadband service source into the GE0 port on the front of the router (for backup connectivity).
- Connect the power supply to the front of the router.
- Contact your RingCentral Project Manager or representative who is working on the circuit installation to schedule a circuit activation test and turn-up that will be coordinated with a RingCentral Data Engineer.
Router Install Guide
See the Router Install Guide for a diagram of the required and optional cable connections to your MiCloud/Sky-supported router.
Network Switches
Network switches, which appear and function differently depending on the model, are provided by your network administrator, who should be consulted if you have questions. If you are only using one switch for data and voice, your network administrator must configure VLANs to treat voice and data traffic differently.
NOTE: It is very important to enable LLDP on the data network.
If you are using a RingCentral rented switch, please schedule configuration with your RingCentral project manager.
Test with MiCloud/Sky
RingCentral will register and test your connectivity with the router to make sure you are ready to receive voice services. Schedule circuit activation, test, and turn-up with your RingCentral representative. This requires the coordination of data engineering resources, so please allow up to 3 days to secure a date for this meeting.
Changes to Supported Routers
RingCentral does not support the following:
- Routers with Masergy Intelligent Bridge (MIB) circuits
- Routers with DSL Backup Connectivity
Routable IP Addresses
Customers who connect to the Internet via RingCentral are provided with one routable IP address.
