As part of the new U.S. federal regulations (resulting from Section 506 of RAY BAUM’s Act), As of January 6, 2022, providing reliable location information with every 911 call from MiCloud is required. This regulation requires VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) services to deliver location information with emergency calls to ensure the accuracy of emergency response requests. (For more information, please visit: 911 Kari's Law and Ray Baums Act)
To ensure we are ready to support these new 911 capabilities for the core telephony services provided by soft clients, a MiCloud Client upgrade to version (V):213.100.5477.0 or later is required. With this upgrade, users can manage and update their emergency location from the Client.
For information about how to download and install the MiCloud Client, see the following:
What is happening?
Mitel recommends customers using older versions of the Client (such as 213.100.4860.0 or below) upgrade their client as soon as possible to the latest version: 213.100.5477.0 or later. Mitel plans to push a forced upgrade of the Client soon; communications will be provided in advance.
What is the impact or action required?
Mitel is committed to ensuring a smooth user experience. In order to use the Dynamic E911 feature, a Network Utility called “Network Helper” is required and must be installed when prompted after the Client is upgraded. Installation of Network Helper requires installer/admin permissions.
NOTES:
- Dynamic E911 is not supported for Client (softphone) installed on Windows 7 or Windows 32-bit systems, and we encourage you to use IP Phones for placing 911/emergency calls in order to provide Dynamic E911 location information. Calls made from these unsupported systems via softphone from Client will be routed to a National Emergency Call Center. Federal regulations require the delivery of reliable location information when users dial 911/emergency services.
NOTE: If your call is directed to a National Call Center, please do not hang up until you have provided your details. - If Network Helper is not installed, usage of the Client will not be impacted. However, in this case, the Dynamic E911 feature cannot be used and we recommend using IP Phones for placing 911/emergency calls.
- For those users who currently use the non-admin installer for Client, note that installation of Network Helper requires installer/admin permissions. Please contact your system administrator for assistance installing Network Helper. Administrators may also choose to remotely install the software on Windows PCs/laptops; for more information, see this Microsoft article.
You can find step-by-step instructions on how to add and manage emergency locations via Client in the Client User Guide.
