Information

Bandwidth, an important aspect of the Sky phone system, determines the rate at which information can be transmitted across a medium. The rates are measured in bits (b/s), kilobits (Kb/s), megabits (Mb/s), or gigabits (Gb/s) per second. Typical transmission services are 56Kb/s, 64Kb/s, 1.544Mb/s (T1) and 45Mb/s (T3).

Bandwidth Usage

Note that slow data can be an indication that you are exceeding your bandwidth usage. If you are experiencing slow data, checking your bandwidth usage is recommended.

There is currently no way to monitor bandwidth directly in the Sky Account Portal, but your IT team or IT partner can monitor your bandwidth. If you have questions about, or issues with, monitoring bandwidth, create a Support Case to communicate your needs to Sky Account Support.

FAQ

Q: How much bandwidth does a phone call use?
A:
The amount of bandwidth used on a phone call depends on the type of codec being used for the call. Normally, inbound outbound calls use the G.729 codec but there are some instances when the G.711 codec is used. Listed below are common examples of call types and the amount of bandwidth and codec used for each.
