Introduction
The Polycom VVX 101, 201, 311, 411, 501, and 601 Business Media Phones are advanced IP phones. You can access the data sheets for these phone models here.
Certification Details
The supported features, limitations, and known issues for the Polycom VVX 101, 201, 311, 411, 501, and 601 Business Media Phone models are provided in this section.
The certified Polycom UC Software version is 5.6.5.0219.

Generic SIP Device Limitations
Conference
- Meet-me conference calls are required for calls with more than three parties.
- While on the MiCloud conference bridge, there is no conference floor control.
Directory
- These phones do not display the company directory, the personal directory, or speed dials. However, you can add contacts directly to the phones.
Call Handling
- Call Forward: Enabling Always Forward, No Answer, and Busy Forward works as configured in the Account Portal or client. Do Not Disturb works as configured in the AccountPortal or client. Changing the forwarding settings on the device does not change the profile in the Account Portal.
- Number of Rings: Changing the number of rings does not change the setting in the Account Portal, but it changes the number of rings on the phone.
- Shared Call Appearance: Calling a shared call appearance associated with the profile does not ring the Polycom conference phone.
Programmable Buttons
- Programmable buttons are not supported on these phones.
Help Button
- There is no help button on these phones.
Group Features
The following Group Features are not supported:
Known Issues
- Unavailable Status: When the device is linked to a profile that does not have an assigned contact, the device displays "Unavailable" on the screen. After a contact is added to the profile, the device no longer displays the "Unavailable" status.
- Call History: When an inbound call from an external number is received or missed, Call History displays the call as "SIPS" rather than displaying the calling number.
Resetting the Polycom VVX Business Media Phones to the Default Settings
Before configuring a Polycom VVX Business Media Phone for use with MiCloud, you should reset the phone to the default settings. You can do this through the phone interface or the Web Configuration Utility using the following instructions.
To reset the phone to the default settings using the phone interface:
- On the phone, press the Home button and then navigate to Settings > Advanced.
- Enter the phone password.
- Navigate to Administration Settings > Reset to Defaults.
- Select 5 Reset to Factory, and then select Yes.
To reset the phone to the default settings using the Web Configuration Utility:
- Find the IP address of the phone by pressing the Home button and then navigating to Settings > Status > Network > TCP/IP Parameters.
- In the address field of any web browser, type the IP address assigned to the Polycom phone, and then press Enter.
The phone admin login page is displayed. - Log in using the following credentials:
- Username: Polycom
- Password: 456
NOTE: If you cannot access the Web Configuration Utility, contact Support. - Select the Utilities tab.
- Navigate to Phone Backup & Restore > Global Settings, and then select Restore.
Configuring the Polycom Business Media Phone
You can configure the supported Polycom VVX Business Media Phone models using either the phone interface or the Web Configuration Utility.
Configuring the Polycom Phone Using the Phone Interface
- Connect the Ethernet cable.
First, the lights on the top of the device turn red. After about 15 seconds, the Polycom logo appears on the screen and the lights turn off. - On the phone, press the Home button, and then navigate to Settings > Advanced.
- Enter the default password, 456.
- Navigate to Administration Settings > Network Configuration > Provisioning Server.
- Configure the following settings:
- Server Type: HTTP
- Server Address: upgrade01.sky.shoretel.com/polycom
Leave all other settings as the default settings. - Press OK.
- Press the back arrow twice, and then press Save Config.
The phone restarts. - Press the Home button, and then navigate to Settings > Advanced > Administrative Settings > Web Server Configurations.
- Configure the following settings:
- Web Server: Check to enable
- Web Config Mode: HTTP Only
- Press the back arrow, and then press Exit >Save Config.
The phone restarts.
Configuring the Polycom Phone Using the Web Interface
- Find the IP address of the phone by pressing the Home button and then navigating to Settings > Status > Network > TCP/IP Parameters.
- In the address field of any web browser, type the IP address assigned to the Polycom phone, and then press Enter.
The phone administrative login page is displayed.
NOTE: If the Web Config Mode setting is not specified as "HTTP Only" as described in “Configuring the Polycom Phone Using the Phone Interface”, then access the Web Configuration Utility with HTTPS instead of HTTP as the default. - Log in using the following credentials:
- Username: Polycom
- Password: 456
NOTE: If you cannot access the Web Configuration Utility, contact Support. - Navigate to Settings > Provisioning Server and configure the following settings:
- Server Address: upgrade01.sky.shoretel.com/polycom
- DHCP Menu/Boot Server: Static
- Click Save.
- Navigate to Preferences > Select Date & Time and configure the following settings:
- Time Synchronization
- SNTP Server:
- Off-net: pool.ntp.org
- On-net: Select the blank option in the drop-down list and enter the IP address of the voice interface.
- SNTP Resync Period: 86400
- GMT Offset:
- US: -5 for EST, -6 for CST, -7 for MST, or -8 for PST
- Canada: -3:30 for NST, -4 for AST, -5 for EST, -6 for CST, -7 for MST, or -8 for PST
- Daylight Saving
- Daylight Saving: Enabled
- Fixed Day: Disabled
- Start Date: Second Sunday March 02:00
- End Date: First Sunday November 02:00
- Click Save.
- Navigate to Settings > Lines > Line 1 and configure the following settings:
- Display Name: Enter the name of the phone user.
- Address: Enter 1 + the 10-digit phone number, followed by @3psbc.sky.shoretel.com
- Label: Enter a label for the line button.
- Calls per Line: 8
- Enable SRTP: Yes
- Offer SRTP: Yes
- Use Login Credentials: Disable
- Domain: <empty>
- Authentication User ID: Enter 1 + the 10-digit phone number.
- Authentication Password: Enter the voicemail password.
- Click Save.
The phone is ready for use when the phone is successfully registered and the phone icon at the bottom of the screen is green with a green check mark. - (Optional) To set up voicemail access, do the following:
NOTE: You can access the voicemail system by pressing the voicemail (envelope) icon on the main phone screen. If the voicemail password changes, you must update the Authentication Password in the phone settings; see step 8.
- Navigate to Settings > Lines > Line 1 > Message Center and configure the following settings:
- Callback Mode: Contact
- Callback Contact: 8991
- Navigate to Preferences > Additional Preferences > User Preferences and configure the following settings:
- One Touch Voice Mail: Enable
