T1 Circuit

Information

This article explains the purpose of a T1 circuit in the MiCloud phone systems.

  • NOTE: If you are moving one or more of your company's locations and will need a T1 circuit installed at the new location(s), see the Move Location article.

A T1 circuit is dedicated, high-speed digital connection that can be used for voice and data traffic. This type of circuit requires a line to be brought into your physical location and terminated at a jack in a small telephone or data room, sometimes referred to as a "Telco closet." The jack, called a smartjack, can then be used to plug a cable to extend the circuit into the appropriate equipment at your location. A smartjack is required to connect your T1 circuit to your routing equipment.

When utilizing a T1 circuit on a private MiCloud Network, voice traffic never traverses the public internet and is routed directly to the MiCloud data centers for high efficiency.

A T1 circuit consists of 24 channels, which can be allotted to voice, data, or both. The T1 transmission occurs over two-pair fiber-optic wiring; however, it is sometimes brought to the building on regular copper wires. Each T1 circuit provides 1.54 Mbps of synchronous bandwidth. Multiple circuits can be bonded together to increase bandwidth. MiCloud configures the T1 to provide 500 KB for voice and 1 MB for data; however, the T1 can be configured with other connectivity options should your bandwidth needs be greater than that of a single T1 circuit.

T1 Configurations

  • Single T1 where 500 KB is reserved for voice and 1 MB is available for data.
  • Two T1's for customers who need:
    • more than 1 MB for data, we offer Load Balanced T1's and other connectivity options.
    • more than 1 MB for voice, we offer MPPP to "bond" the circuits.
  • For customers who require more than 2 MB for data, we suggest using a non-MiCloud data provider.
