Admin vs Non-Admin Chart
What's happening?
MiCloud offers new installation and upgrade options that do not require admin rights on Windows. This enables users to install upgrades at their pace without requiring a Group Policy Object (GPO). The non-admin installer requires the IT admin and user to coordinate the installation.
If my organization decides to use this new offer, what’s the impact?
If this non-admin package is installed, upgrades for the Client end users will happen automatically. See table below to compare the admin installer vs non-admin installer.
NOTE: If you are a MiCloud customer that would like to stay with your existing installation and upgrade process that requires admin privileges, this offering is optional and does not have to impact to you.
What are the steps to install the non-admin installer for the Client?
- First your MiCloud admin will have to uninstall the existing MiCloud desktop client, Teamwork, and Presenter for end users who are permitted to install the new non-admin package.
If the current installer is not uninstalled, the new non-admin install will not work.
A fresh install is required for the non-admin installer. Upgrade for non-admin installer is not possible with the Client. - After the uninstall, best practice is to reboot the user machine that will receive the non-admin package.
- Next, your IT admin will provide a link to the non-admin installer for designated end users.
NOTE: An Outlook add-in installation pop-up will ask user’s permission before installing it. - Once end users have the new desktop client non-admin package installed, all client upgrade going forward will not require admin rights
NOTES:
- Auto upgrades for the Client is a consideration that should be reviewed by the IT Administrative team with your organization.
Admins will have to remove the current installer prior to the end-user installing the new non-admin package. To access the non-admin installer today go to the MiCloud Applications download page. Just look for the download option under Mitel Connect for Windows and MAC. - Users cannot choose “C:\Program Files (x86)” or “C:\Program Files” location for installing as non-admin installer doesn’t have the permission to upgrade the folder.
