Information

Temporary numbers are automatically set up for users and call flow components assigned transferring numbers. Temporary numbers can be used in the following ways:

  • Internal Testing - You and your users can use temporary numbers to test and familiarize yourself with your new phone system before your numbers are transferred.
  • Remote Call Forwarding (RCF) - You can have transferring numbers forwarded to temporary numbers so that your users start receiving calls on your new phone system while the number transfer is in progress.

NOTE: It is recommended that you do not share temporary numbers with your customers, vendors, or other external contacts as these numbers are removed from your account once the number transfer process is complete.

Remote Call Forwarding

RCF enables users to start receiving calls on your new phone system while the number transfer is in progress. Callers can continue to dial the number that is being transferred, and the call will be forwarded to the temporary number assigned to the user. To finalize this configuration, you must contact your current service provider and request that your number be forwarded to the temporary number provided. Once the transfer request is complete and the number has been transferred to MiCloud, the temporary number is unassigned and calls to the transferred number will complete as normal.

NOTES:

  • Although your transferring numbers are displayed on desk phone labels and may be displayed as the Caller ID number when you place a call, callers cannot reach your new phone system by dialing these numbers unless you set up forwarding through your current service provider.
  • Your current phone service provider may not offer the ability to leverage this service and/or may charge additional fees when assigning a temporary number and forwarding to your existing number. Keep in mind, these fees are not charged by RingCentral and RingCentral will not reimburse these additional costs charged by your existing provider.

To view and export a list of all temporary numbers for your account

  1. On the menu in the Account Console, click Phone Numbers and then click Inventory.
  2. In the Destination Type column, select Temporary Number For.
A list of all temporary numbers on your account is displayed. The Number column displays the temporary number and the Destination (Display Name) column displays the transferring number that the temporary number is redirecting to.
  3. Click Export to export the list of temporary numbers and their corresponding destinations.
  4. Provide this list to your current service provider to request remote call forwarding from the transferring numbers (Destination column) to the corresponding temporary numbers (Number column).
Once your service provider has completed this step, users with temporary numbers assigned will begin receiving calls to their transferring number on the new phone system.
